Quotes I thought were from someone else but they were actually accidentally hacked and made by me
A. “It’s never the place, it’s the people you are with.”
I remember the first time it came naturally when I said this. It was when I was one of the program committee of the Whovian Philippines’ gathering of Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary. We were looking for a venue and even some of the other members were bragging that our gathering would be quite big compared to past Whovian Philippines’ mini-gatherings.
I suddenly said this quote — “It’s never the place, it’s the people you are with.” — as it doesn’t matter at all where we mostly are, as Whovians that we are, as long as we can geek out with like minded people who are fans of the longest running science fiction show.
I actually just only misquoted this panel in the I”s manga:

B. “It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.”
So it was actually the “Context of the word”, which means I might be partly correct?
Thing is, if you think of things these ways:
- What did Alfred Nobel think about inventing the dynamite? Did he feel like Tony Stark inventing that very dangerous invention? With empathy, you can hypothesize that he really regretted inventing dynamite and used most of the money in his inventions for the Nobel Prizes, right?
- Did Albert Einstein and his colleagues want their discovery, that lead to the discovery of nuclear energy, strong enough to power a city for long periods of time, be only used for atomic bombs set off at Nagasaki and Hiroshima?
- Did Mr Nikola Tesla want his discovery of the “ball lightning” to just be used for war?
In the end, it’s ethics. For the last two points above, I don’t think so. They didn’t want to.

C. “Do you really need money? Or its value and worth?”
What made an impression to me to this particular episode of Doctor Who is that the planet, Akhaten, use things that have sentiment for currency. This is somewhat like barter in the very olden days.
Even super beings in the show, Shougeki Gouraigan, find money as useless pieces of paper (warning: relatively heavy and mature clip):
On a lighter note, Richie Rich’s parents know what they value more than money:
D. “There are no shortcuts with hard work, just smart hacks.”
This is somewhat my “hack” with what my kinakapatid who’s a professor usually says during exam weeks: “Don’t study hard, study well.”
It’s like this:
- Do you want to learn the Japanese kanji and many Japanese phrases more efficiently? Use WaniKani or even Anki.
- Do you want to jog and run having higher engagement? Play Zombies, Run.
- Do you want to learn to code Python or Javascript while playing an RPG? Play CodeCombat.
- Do you want explore places when you’re new in town? Play Pokemon Go, Wizards Unite, or Ingress.
- Do you want to learn Vim while playing an RPG? Play VimAdventures.
Do you see what I mean? There are no shortcuts with hard work, just smart hacks.
E. “Smart hard work usually pays off.”
This is relatively similar to “There are no shortcuts with hard work, just smart hacks.” but this is more based from what I watched from the Japanese drama, Radiation House Season 2 Episode 2 about a child athlete.
F. “One must not just notice the blot, but all the colours in a paper.”
They say, when you make a big mistake you only see the blot of the person’s soul. There’s also fallacy of recency to consider too, how recent it was when that person in question made a big mistake.
I actually got the original quote along the lines “the blot is more noticeable than the whole thing in a paper” from a friend back in college when I made a big mistake which I still regret making. (But then again, if I didn’t make that big mistake and didn’t disappear, I guess I would be less wiser that I am now).
But when I was watching Shirahama Alan’s guesting in Another Sky, I kinda accidentally made this new quote — “one must not just notice the blot, but all the colours in a paper”. Below is my original post regarding about the Another Sky guesting of Shirahama Alan.
To be wholeheartedly honest, I didn’t like Shirahama Alan because of how much similar he is with Dr Jose Rizal and General Gregorio Del Pilar with the ladies. But just like Dr Jose Rizal and General Gregorio Del Pilar, his love of the Philippines, family, and its culture is genuine. “Since one must not just notice the blot, but all the colours in a paper”, I have changed my opinion about him. Just like apl.de.ap, he really embraces the Philippines. He is even a Ninong of three.

I remembered way back in late 2000s watching the movie, “How to Become Myself” in the Japanese Film Festival which was named Eiga Sai during that time, I really thought I got that quote from the movie when I mentioned it during one of my consultations with my shrink. But as I rewatch now the movie, the above were the scenes.
H. “The only permanent thing is change, as dreams never have a finish line.”
This is actually one of the lines of one of the songs I’m finishing for one of the sing-and-dance performance groups I’m musically producing. It also happens to be my favorite line of the song.
“The only permanent thing is change” is a rearrangement of what Heraclitus originally said “The only thing that is constant is change”.
As for the “Dreams never have a finish line”, I got it from one of the Japanese movies I translated, ROOKIES ~Graduation~:
